Compass School’s Policy Statement on Provider Access and Careers Education, Information, Advice and Guidance 

At Compass School, we are committed to providing our students with comprehensive Career Education, Information, Advice, and Guidance (CEIAG) to support them in making informed decisions about their future pathways. As part of this commitment, we offer various opportunities for external providers to access our students and contribute to their career development. This Provider Access Statement outlines the opportunities available for external providers to engage with our students and support their CEIAG needs.

Implementation of CEIAG and Pupil Entitlement

• Compass School supports “Every Teacher is a Teacher of Careers.”  This ensures that all subject teachers link employability skills and careers to their subject and have a visual display in each classroom to show relevant links to career options.

• The careers programme not only deals with specific jobs, career pathways and further education, but also focusses on the development of the individual and embedding personal, social and employability skills to ensure a positive progression from Compass School.

• Our induction process addresses Post 16 aspirations and decisions and is linked to the programme of  choice subjects for the pupils both on and off-site.  This is discussed with the pupil and family to develop the pupils’ personalised timetable.

•          We provide a careers programme that is mapped across the curriculum, relating to specific requirements of each year group.  This is predominantly taught in PSHE and World of Work (WOW) lessons and during SPICE (Social, Physical, Intellectual, Creative, Emotional) activities.

• All Secondary pupils have access to the WOW curriculum (World of work), which looks at developing skills for work including; enterprise, employability, CV workshops, and Team Building.

• Employability skills are developed in SPICE and where the focus is on learning to learn

• External provision opportunities are linked to career progression and include courses in construction, mechanics, carpentry and catering.

• The Compass school website is updated regularly signposting pupils to updated local and national information.

• Work related experience for identified pupils is provided, to support their specific learning requirements and to personalise their timetables.

• Providers are invited into the school to impart knowledge on apprenticeships and other programmes of study.

• Opportunities to provide independent and impartial careers guidance from outside agencies.

• Each pupil has an allocated SAFE Worker who meets with their pupils alongside our link Careers Advisor from EBP South.

• The school will make a suitable space available for discussions between the provider and pupils, as appropriate to the activity. Compass School will also make available ICT and other specialist equipment to support provider presentations.

At Compass School, we recognise the importance of providing students with access to a wide range of CEIAG opportunities to support their career development and progression. By engaging with external providers through careers fairs, workshops, talks, work experience, mentoring, and networking opportunities, we aim to equip our students with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to make informed decisions about their future pathways and achieve their career goals.
