South Zone Information

South Zone is for pupils who are educated off site for the whole or part of their timetable. The majority of pupils in the South Zone are inducted via the city’s Alternative Pathways route from mainstream schools in Year 11.

This route is selected for pupils who will benefit from the key skills of English and maths being taught in a one to one (or two) situation by a personal tutor. As a result they receive an individual programme matched to needs and will benefit from the development of personal and social skills promoted by this delivery.

In order to enhance the pupils’ programme, they will have the opportunity to,

  • Access additional subjects on Compass School site from our GSCE choices of art and design, child care, health and fitness, graphic design, music and resistant materials.
  • Complete online courses via the school’s virtual learning platform which will be set up and monitored by the pupil’s tutor.
  • Take part in off-site activities and courses such as,
  • City College (Hairdressing, motor vehicle)
  • Dobson Learning (Carpentry)
  • Dumbleton (Cycling)
  • MPCT (Motivational Preparation College Training) (Employability skills, fitness, PSD)
  • Prince’s Trust, Access Programme (PSD, various outdoor and adventurous activities)
  • SEED (BTEC workskills through outdoor and adventurous activities)
  • SOCO (Creative Arts Award with a musical focus.)
  • Workmobility (Mechanical work)
  • Work placements (Various – determined by the interests of the pupil)
  • YOS (Creative Arts Award with an art, media and photography focus)
  • Youth Options Outdoor Learning (Construction, health and safety in the workplace)

Our aim in the South Zone is to develop personal achievement in both academic and emotional terms so that the pupil is ready to progress onto the next appropriate pathway, whether that be reintegration to school or being prepared for post 16 opportunities.
