Saturn

Saturn Class is a KS1 class, taught by Mrs Symes and Miss Gosling. Pupils attend Saturn class on Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays. Pupils with high level complex social and emotional complex needs attend an additional 2 days each week. A weekly assessment of progress towards behaviour and academic targets is given to the home school and communication on a daily basis to parents ensures that the right support is put into place in supporting pupils in their transition onto their next education provision.

There is a clear focus on improving pupils’ skills in Learning to Learn as well as their progress in academic learning. This is delivered through the Nurture curriculum enabling opportunities for skills development in independent learning whilst meeting their social and emotional needs.

In Saturn Class this term we will continue to focus on ‘Engagement with Learning’ and developing our understanding of ‘fair play’ . Our  lively Topic is ‘Pirates’ and the classroom will have a role play pirate ship area to develop skills in co-operation, speaking and listening. We will be writing descriptions and our own pirate story. We will be describing movements, directions and making simple maps. We will investigate the properties of materials and design our own model ships. Our weather watching walks will continue as we welcome in Spring and look for signs of seasonal changes in the school environment. We will also look at  the British Celebrations which occur this term such as Pancake day, Mother’s day and Easter; looking at their links to the Christian Faith.
