North Zone Information

North Zone is our provision for primary pupils. We have 3 classes in North Zone: Jupiter, Mercury and Saturn. Each purpose-built classroom is equipped to offer a calm, safe and inspiring learning environment for our pupils.

Our curriculum is based on Nurture as we support pupils to develop their social and emotional skills. The North Zone long term curriculum plan for 2016-2017 can be found here. Lessons follow the National Curriculum which is delivered in a topic led approach encompassing English, Maths, Science, PE (including swimming), RE, PSHE, Computing, Music, History, Geography, Art and Design. We also have a daily ‘SPICE’ lesson. This encompasses social, physical, intellectual and emotional aspects of learning and is a time to focus on core British values such as mutual respect and tolerance of those with different beliefs and faiths.British Values

Pupils are rewarded for earning their stars and bonus points throughout the day, and each day ends with the opportunity for pupils to enjoy a variety of play-based activities in their golden time. They also work towards Friday afternoon ‘Cosmic Time’ which is a reward afternoon offering a range of exciting learning opportunities which pupils may choose to take part in.

In addition to our classrooms we have the kitchen, a purpose-built room where pupils enjoy learning to cook, and also where they eat their lunch together. The Allsorts room is our Art, Design and Music area, the library is a cosy book-filled space for reading and 1:1 learning, and the sensory room is used for those pupils who benefit from sensory play. ‘The Lounge’ is a lovely room with a nurture focus which is perfect for pupils who may require additional support at any point in the day.Primary

Miss Howells is our pastoral lead and meets and greets the pupils on arrival in the morning. She is trained in Restorative Practice and Emotional First Aid, and works with our pupils on a 1:1 basis through the day, depending on their needs. She also leads our break time activities in the playground, or in the Lounge if it is raining.

We have a team of experienced Teaching Assistants based in North Zone who work with pupils in class and on a 1:1 basis, as well as at break times.
