West Zone Information

West Zone comprises of six classes working with pupils across the secondary phase:

Red – Year 11
Orange – Year 11
Yellow – Year 11
Green – Year 10
Blue – Year 10
Indigo – Years 7, 8 and 9

Pupils have five lessons a week with their tutor. This is an opportunity to review targets and progress and to focus on the elements of the SPICE curriculum. (Social, Physical, Intellectual, Creative and Emotional.) Pupils also access a SPICE lesson at the end of every day and the choices available for the pupils are in place to support pupils ending their day with a positive enrichment activity.

The core curriculum comprises of: English, maths, art, ICT, PSHE, food technology and a physical or creative choice. Pupils also, depending on what group they are in, will access either science or alternative edge lessons.

Pupils in years 10 and 11 also choose one subject option from: craft skills, child development and health and fitness.

Pupils may have the opportunity to take part in off-site activities. This is based on interest, ability and personal circumstances. These activities include:

  • Barnes Boxing Academy (Boxercise and Fitness)
  • City College (Hairdressing, motor vehicle)
  • Dumbleton (Cycling)
  • Edmonds Learning and Development (Construction)
  • MPCT (Motivational Preparation College Training) (Employability skills, fitness, PSD)
  • Prince’s Trust, Access Programme (PSD, various outdoor and adventurous activities)
  • SEED (BTEC workskills through outdoor and adventurous activities)
  • SOCO (Creative Arts Award with a musical focus.)
  • Workmobility (Mechanical work)
  • Work placements (Various – determined by the interests of the pupil)
  • YOS (Creative Arts Award with an art, media and photography focus)
  • Youth Options (Personal Development)
