World of Work

Pupils in Year 11 who do WOW follow the BTEC Units in ‘Using a CV (Curriculum Vitae) and Covering Letter to Apply for a Job and Applying for a Job’ . This is based on site at school.
Pupils will learn about the purpose of a CV and covering letter and will find out how to gather the relevant information that should be included in both.
In the second unit they will cover how to write a successful job application correctly to increase chances of securing an interview.

Units covered are:
· Know the purpose and covering letter
· Know the type of information usually included in a CV and covering letter
· Know the importance of references in a CV
· Be able to produce a CV and covering letter for a job application
· Explore sources of information for potential employment
· Review own skills, abilities and interests for employment
· Search for suitable job vacancies
· Complete a job application

Pupils in Year 10 who do WOW follow the BTEC Units in Running an Enterprise Activity and Learning from More Experienced People. This is based on site at school.
Pupils will learn how to put an enterprise activity ideas into action and demonstrate selling a product or service and gain an understanding of the importance of keeping accurate information. In the second unit they will have the opportunity to identify people who have more experience and how they can learn from them.

Units covered are:
· Know how to increase the likelihood of success in an enterprise activity
· Be able to complete an enterprise activity
· Be able to review the success of the enterprise activity
· Know how to identify people with more experience
· Be able to learn from people with more experience
· Understand what they have learned from people with more experience

Pupils in key stage 3 complete the World of Work BTEC Entry Level 3 Unit in ‘Working In a Team’. This is based on site at school.
Pupils will identify skills, roles and responsibilities needed to complete team tasks in team building activities and first aid.
After participating in the team tasks pupils will review their contribution.
The 4 units covered are:
· Know what skills and behaviours are needed to work well as a team
· Match own strengths and skills to a given team task
· Work positively as a member of a team
· Know own performance as a member of a team
