Resistant Materials

Key Stage 4 pupils who study AQA Level 1-2 technical award in materials technology work with metal, plastic and wood to create a range of projects.

In year 10:

Pupils will complete projects where they will learn a wide variety of skills to be able to work with a range of materials and these projects make up 30% of their overall grade. Students will complete the following projects:

  • Acrylic Clock
  • Wooden Box
  • Pewter cast Key Ring
  • Ply Laminating Project
  • Metal Coat Hook
  • Team Work Furniture

In year 11:

Pupils will complete a coursework project, designing and making a product of their choice which counts for 30% of their final grade. This is followed by an exam at the end of year 11 which counts for 40% of their final grade.

KS3 students who study resistant materials will cover a range of projects in which they will make things from wood, plastic and metal. The projects aim to build confidence and experience with a range of materials in order to prepare students for KS4.
