Resistant Materials

Key Stage 4 pupils who study Edexcel GCSE Resistant Materials work with metal, plastic and wood to create a range of projects.

In year 10:

Pupils will complete the following projects:

• Metal Minibeasts – cutting, shaping and joining metal to make bugs.

• Mirror Mirror – Creating mirror frames from wood and decorating.

• Trophies – Designing and creating a trophy for a sporting event using wood and plastic.

• Lighting – Designing and making a lamp using a range of materials.

• Wood Joints – Making a box from wood using a range of joints and joining methods.

In year 11:

Pupils will complete GCSE coursework, designing and making a product of their choice. This is worth 60% of the final qualification and 40% is on a final exam.
