The AQA GCSE course in Years 10 and 11 provides pupils with exciting opportunities to lead a healthy and active lifestyle by choosing from a variety of roles and activities in which to participate in physical activity.

Pupils can choose from the following ways in which to participate: player/performer; organiser, leader/coach or official.

In Key Stage 4 we offer two route ways

Short Course

1 year

Half a GCSE

Unit 1:

Knowledge and understanding of the active participant

Written paper – 45 minutes

40 marks – 40%

Scenario issued to the centres in advance of the examination

Unit 2:

The Active Participant

45 marks – 60%

2 assessments from 2 groups/ways of thinking at least 1 as a player

Full Course

2 year

A Full GCSE

Unit 3:

Knowledge and understanding of the active participant

Written paper – 45 minutes

40 marks – 40%

Scenario issued to the centres in advance of the examination

Unit 4:

The Active Participant

90 marks – 60%

4 assessments from 2 groups/ways of thinking at least 2 as a player
