Music is taught as an option subject in Key Stage 4. Pupils study BTEC Level 2 Music Practitioners Award from Rockschool. The aim of the course is to allow all pupils, regardless of their previous experience, to gain a music qualification in either composing or performing.

Throughout the course, pupils are given the opportunity to try several instruments such as drums, guitar, bass guitar, ukulele, piano and voice. Pupils also learn to use music technology packages “Garageband” and “Logic” to compose their own music or to remix and produce tracks.

Independent work is really beneficial to pupils who opt to do music, especially practising at home, in lunchtimes or after school. We encourage this by giving pupils access to instruments at lunchtime and running a music club after school. Homework activities to support learning in the classroom are set half termly and rewards given when these are completed.
